Yorkshire Women Sign Jess Jonassen on Two-Year Deal Ahead of 2026 Tier One Debut

Yorkshire Women have made a major announcement, confirming the signing of Australian all-rounder Jess Jonassen on a two-year contract ahead of their Tier One debut in 2026. The 32-year‑old left-arm spinner and reliable middle-order batter is set to join the squad from March 2026, marking a pivotal step in both her career and the Yorkshire Women’s ambitious growth.

Despite boasting an illustrious record, including more than 200 international matches, five T20 World Cups, and one 50-over World Cup win, Jonassen has found herself overlooked by Cricket Australia for national contracts in the 2025-26 season. In WT20Is, she has picked up 96 wickets from 101 outings and also scalped 141 wickets in 92 WODIs innings.

Rebounding from national side disappointment, Jonassen has embraced new challenges: she made her maiden appearance in the Women’s Caribbean Premier League (WCPL) last year and is set to return for the 2025 season. Representing the Trinbago Knight Riders she claimed 4 wickets and added 46 runs last season.

At home, she continued to shine and lead the Brisbane Heat in the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL). She has dominated the competition with 2251 runs and scalped 179 wickets. She has amassed 295 runs in India’s Women’s Premier League, representing Delhi Capitals, also picking up 33 wickets. Her success, both home and away, has clearly showcased that she remains a formidable talent in the global women’s game.

For Yorkshire Women, securing Jonassen’s services is a significant move as they prepare to elevate into Tier One of the English domestic structures. Her experience and skill, both as a spinner and as a clutch lower-order batter, will be invaluable in mentoring young talent and strengthening the overall squad depth.

Jonassen’s journey from national omission to high-profile domestic recruitment highlights a resilient and adaptable athlete eager to chart new pathways. But the Yorkshire deal now offers her a robust platform to continue developing her game and influence cricket both on and off the field.

Head Coach, Richard Pyrah expressed, “Signing a player of Jess’s quality is a real testament to the enduring appeal of Yorkshire. Jess is a cricketer with proven international pedigree who we know will bring experience and a lot of skill. She is an immensely talented all-rounder and is exactly the kind of character we want in the team as we embark on Tier One next season.”

As Jess prepares for her first season in Yorkshire, all eyes will be on how she adapts to English conditions and integrates into the domestic scene. Her presence is expected to elevate the skill level and professionalism of the entire squad, offering both direct performance benefits and lasting mentorship.
