DDCA Unveils Structure for Women’s Player Auction Ahead of DPL T20 Season 2

The Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) has officially unveiled the rules and structure for the Men’s and Women’s Player Auctions for Season 2 of the Delhi Premier League (DPL T20). Scheduled to be held in New Delhi on July 6 (Men’s) and July 7 (Women’s), the auctions will be livestreamed on FanCode. With expectations high for a more competitive and expansive season, this edition of the Capital’s marquee T20 league is set to be a landmark event.

In a significant and forward-thinking move, the DDCA has eliminated age restrictions for participation in the auctions. Players of all age brackets including emerging Under-16 talents will now have a chance to enter the league. This inclusive approach not only widens the talent pool but also reinforces the league’s commitment to nurturing young and diverse cricketing talent.

DPL T20 Season 2 – Women’s Player Auction Rules:

Total Auction Purse per Franchise: ₹75 Lakhs

Player Categories:

  • Marquee Set – India representatives and ex-IPL/DDCA-registered players (7 players)
  • Category A – DDCA First-Class players (18 players)
  • Category B – DDCA U23 & U19 players (34 players)
  • Category C – Regional League players (96 players)

Player Retention Rules:

Each of the four existing franchises may retain one player from any of the four categories.

If a player is retained, the franchise’s auction purse will be reduced as per the following table:

Category Wise Deduction from Auction Purse:

  • Marquee – ₹10.50 Lakhs
  • Category A – ₹6.00 Lakhs
  • Category B – ₹2.50 Lakhs
  • Category C – ₹1.00 Lakh

Right to Match (RTM) Rules:

  • Each of the four franchises is permitted one RTM card.
  • RTM may be used only for players in Category A, B, or C.
  • RTM is not applicable to Marquee category players.

With this move, DDCA aims to expand the talent base with age not being a barrier for participation in the auctions. Players from all age brackets, including talented U-16 prospects, will be eligible for selection in the auction, a progressive step aimed at fostering inclusivity and discovering future stars.

Season 1 witnessed celebrations rang out at Arun Jaitley Stadium as the inaugural Delhi Premier League Women’s T20 in 2024 featured four teams: East Delhi Riders, South Delhi Superstarz, Central Delhi Queens, and North Delhi Strikers.

After a round-robin league stage, North Delhi Strikers topped the table and went on to claim the championship by winning over South Delhi Superstarz by 10 runs. Individually, the season was highlighted by standout performances: Upasana Yadav leading the charts of being the lead run scorer amassing 270 runs and also having the highest score achieved with an unbeaten 114 in the final against South Delhi.

Nazma led the charts of highest wicket takers scalping 7 wickets with her exceptional four wicket haul (4/17). North Delhi Strikers Women remained as the table toppers with 4 points (W-2, L-1), with South Delhi Superstarz Women being the second on the point table with 4 points differing through net run rate.
